The inspiration for this post started when I heard a great mashup involving Ce Ce Peniston's classic "Finally" over at Mashtix.com on their excellent Sample Hijack compilation. The track in question is by The Reborn Identity and mashes Ce Ce with The Pixies. There's a couple spots where you wonder if it will work, but when the chorus hits, there's no more wondering. This is fun shit, I tell ya. There are number of great mashups involving "Finally", and here are some of the greats. First up is the aforementioned Reborn Identity track, followed by Winkar Lopez's contribution to the comp, which rocks the Ce Ce with Earth, Wind and Fire and Carl Douglas. Don't forget to snag the whole compilation, which has a lot more than just "Finally" mashups <HERE>.
The Reborn Identity - Here Comes Your Man
Winkar Lopez - Let's Kung Fu Tonight
Next up is the first of the "Finally" mashups I heard - An oldie from DJ Tripp that he originally thought would bomb at the club but instead had the crowd in a frenzy. One of the more original mashups involving the White Stripes' Seven Nation Army." Tuning seems ever so slightly off for the verses, but that almost adds to the charm of this one, and the chorus is bang on.
This next one comes from Mark Vilder aka Go Home Productions and one from his May 2008 compilation Spliced Krispies you can find <HERE>. Ce Ce is mashed with the Sex Pistols' "Did You No Wrong," and it was his first bunch of mashups since he scared us all months earlier by declaring his retirement from producing in the genre. Lucky for us, he couldn't stay away.
Go Home Productions - Finally Did You No Wrong
PartyBen has also thrown his hat into the "finally" mashup game with this mash with Faithless and The Steve Miller Band. He later re-worked the track and uses Yaz instead of Ce Ce, which he says he likes better. This one is still worth a listen though.
PartyBen - Finally, Insomnia Airlines
Last, and certainly not least is the on-fire DJ Y Alias JY which might just be the best of the bunch. On "Finally, Don't Let Go" the JY works Ce Ce in with Yo Majesty, Salt & Pepa, and Yazoo for what turns out to be a B-girl summit. This one'll scorch dancefloors, I tell ya.
