We haven’t ever posted anything from The Avalanches, and
it’s about time. The electronic music
group from Melbourne, Australia have been around in some form or another since
1995, but really made a name for themselves in 2000 when they released “Since I
Left You” an album that contained over 3,500 samples and received wide critical
acclaim including nine ARIA (Australian Recording Industry Association) award
nominations and a 9.5 from the esteemed pitchforkmedia. Soon after they opened for Beck, The Beastie Boys,
Public Enemy and Stereolab, and have done official remixes for Belle &
Sebastian, Franz Ferdinand, and Wolfmother. We haven’t heard from them in a while, but according to their
myspace, they are putting the final touches on their second album – but talks
of the new album have been around for over a year now, and details are few and
far between - except for the fact that it will be one huge party rocker – so
only time will tell. “Ray of Zdarlight”
was unleashed about a year ago when these talks of the new album first started
to surface, and it’s a perfect mashup of Wham’s “A Ray of Sunshine” and
Digitalism’s floor burner “Zdarlight.” If this smooth as butter mix is any indication of what the new record
will be like, set some cash aside NOW so you can get it the instant it comes
out.
