Lyrics Born (born Tom Shimura) is a half Japanese-American, half Italian-American hip-hop rapper who makes his home in the San Fran Bay area. According to Party Ben, he's responsible for putting Lyrics Born's "Callin' Out" into San Fran's LIVE 105 rotation where it eventually made it to #1 and stayed there for 5 weeks. With the "Callin' Out" acapella in hand, Party Ben brings the mash-up world a little exercise in musical arithmetics wherein Disco fever + Grand Master Flash-like rhymes=Japanese hip-funk. All parts contributing to the whole make this a mighty good mash-up where the rhyming (Lyric Born) flows like warm honey on a slice of watermelon and the instrumental kicks it up a notch giving you a funky disco groove, ala Earth Wind and Fire's "Shining Star". Pella and instrumental work well here. The horns punctuate the verses, and the Malcolm "Molly" Duncan tenor sax solo sours high over Born's punchy hook. From start to finish, Party Ben brings his best without giving the listener too much. No effects, just straight up groove is the way to go. Make sure your equalizer is properly set to give this mash-up its due. Listen once, hit REPEAT...appreciate. Amen.
