Dean Gray Tuesday
Only 10 days after its release, the mash-up album American Edit, which pays tribute to the acclaimed Green Day album American Idiot through some of the best mash-up productions of 2005, was shut down reportedly after received a cease & desist order from Green Day's label, Warner records, despite the fact that it was released as an internet only release with no commercial gain for the team of mash-up artists involved. In fact, the only possible profit to be made from the release was a plea from the creators of the album (known only by the shared alias Dean Gray) for fans who enjoyed the creation to donate to one of three possible charities that Green Day have been known to support. Furthermore, the mash-up versions were such fantastic productions that they were truly a departure from the standard Green Day performances and would not compete for consumptive dollars.
We hope to mobilize the online Mash-Up community by organizing a simple one-day organized event. Participants would be asked to post the American Edit album online for 24 hours only starting on Tuesday, December 13, at 12:00AM. Doing so is not intended to be a mass organization of music piracy but, rather, one single display of the consumptive power of the mash-up and home remix community in the hopes of encouraging the labels, publishers and artists who are curious about the mash-up community to consider giving the high quality productions of "illegitimate" music a legitimate consideration as a promotional avenue for all music.
We also hope to encourage club DJs and radio DJs to air portions of the American Edit release on "Gray" Tuesday and refer to this site by reporting their planned airplay in advance.
If you can commit to hosting American Edit for approximately 24 hours on your Web site on December 13 or can commit to giving American Edit airplay on "Gray" Tuesday, please complete the form below. If you are looking for a source to download American Edit for your personal listening, please return to this site on Tuesday, December 13th -- "Dean Gray Tuesday".
How It Will Work
At 12:01AM on Dean Gray Tuesday, this page will be replaced by a list of sites that will be providing the American Edit album for download in protest to its banning, reportedly by Warner records. In order to prevent server overloads, this page will randomly display only a sub-set of the full list of sites participating in "Dean Gray Tuesday". Each visitor will be shown a different sub-set list of possible sources. By following the links, they will visit the participating site and be able to download American Edit. On 11:50PM that night, this page will cease to function as a "portal" to American Edit sources.
If you will participate in the Dean Gray Tuesday, please point your visitors to this site so we can record the number of visitors who arrive on Dean Gray Tuesday to record the impact this protest will have within 24 hours. Spread the word!
The URL to distribute to others for Dean Gray Tuesday is: http://gray.alt.fm
PSST - found another track from the Album. Enjoy Dr. Who on Holiday . Props to our friend from the Great White North - Lockdown. Ooops another one slipped in here.
PSST again - All of the tracks there (Lockdown), except I can't figure out the url's for tracks #9 and #11. Anyone know what the exact filenames might be for those two? (see track list on http://gray.alt.fm/)

I'm a bit confused now, I thought that mashuptown was getting closed down, in fact I can only get here at all through the RSS. So what exactly is happening? Have we gone underground or what?

Your motherfucking mashup broke my fucking iPod.

Tetsuo,
Hmmm... that is unfortunate. Could you please let us know which track was the culprit. This is the first instance of this happening to any iPod that I have heard of and could be the first signs of mp3itis. This is very disturbing as it could be the beginning of a world wide pandemic in the iPod world.
We need more information which will be forwarded at once to the proper authorities.
We no longer have control over the quality or validity of the links provided. At time of posting the links are deemed reliable and functioning. After that it's dependent on the link owner/provider.
Sorry for any trouble, good to know you are alive and well. We've missed your explict language ridden comments here at Mashuptown.com
Peace

It's whatever bloody track was included in the podcast. I finished one podcast, flipped through the list, went to the newest Mashup of the Week one, clicked on it, and my iPod crashed, and now all I get is that damned sad iPod icon. 4G iPod mini, FYI. Latest drivers and everything, and was working without a hitch until I tried playing your damn file.

Ahhh... the Apple iCon of death - that sucks. First the file is not "ours", it is a link to a file on someone elses server. Second I've played the file on both my ipods and have had not had the same experience (I have two mini's). Third I've had to take back one of my iPods 4 times for repairs in less than a year - sounds like it's a problem with your iPod not the music being played on it. I feel your iPod crash pain. Perhaps Santa will bring you a new iPod if you're a good boy. Peace and Happy Holidays

Thanks for the filenames, Pigpen. My bad-- I should have first read Bigpig's comment posted under "Get this one quick like" from 11/29.

The interesting thing about this is that a local station here in DC has been airing Boulevard of Broken Songs.

Hey, I realize this is 2 and a half years after your iPod trouble, but the issue can more than likely be resolved by resetting your iPod. This can be done in either of two ways (depending on your iPod generation). Either press and hold menu and the center button or press and hold play/pause and the center button for about ten seconds or until the apple logo appears on the screen. If it works properly, your iPod should function afterward. Again, I realize this post is a long time after the original, but better late than never I guess.
