oxxo T sent us this track a few weeks back and we are now getting it to you. I had an interesting back and forth with oxxo - a first really as an editor here at MTown. It was the first time I had obscenities thrown at me for not posting a track. Exchange below:
oxxo:
hey
I take it you detest my music so much that your response to the
SOV track was some stab at sarcasm of sorts. In that case fuck you
indeed. Fuck you with a capital F. At least my music has heart in it.
It doesn't suck like that Slayer v Queen crap you have on your site (Editors Note: I love that track).
I'd call that a mishap rather than a mashup.
Me:
Been busy man. Thanks for your comments. Have a great weekend.
So oxxo T here is your track posted on the Mtown. Pink Floyd vs. Nirvana. I don't have a URL to send you to Taner T's other works. A unique track. Find more of his music <HERE>. Enjoy and have a great week. Peace.
Note: There seems to be quite a hubbub about this track. It has been posted as an example of what not to do when sending in tracks for posting. I don't think this is an example of the greatest track nor how to act when ones track doesn't get posted. Yes I know it is ironic that the track was posted. Read between the lines folks - Art
Note 2: oxxo did apologize for the drunken rant/post. We have kissed and made up.

Wow - like muzak, but with extra suck.

Absolute garbage. Absolute and total garbage. Even though Kurt's vocals are slowed down (speed variance in the vocal aspect of a mashup is blasphemy, imho) and they're *still* pitchy and off rhythm more than they're on. There is no concept behind the track, which means that it doesn't mesh; it's simply an acapella and music playing at the same time, with no connection between the two.
You should have trusted your instincts and not posted it, no matter what the creator said. This "mishap" only cheapens the value of the truly brilliant music you've linked to before.

Wow. This isn't very good at all is it. I think it has the potential to be quite good, but the audio quality and choppy editing... wow.
Posted by: SinCulture | June 15, 2009 at 09:29 AM
its not the worst mashup i've ever heard but then again its not the best either, vocals are a bit ook in places it has potential but needs more work done to it.
so does that mean if i send an email to MTown with lots of obscenities in it you'll post my vids here lol!!
Posted by: boris | June 15, 2009 at 09:52 AM
sorry Boris...I have the ability to post those vids for you...but you know how far behind I am in downloading the new ones...
and I think Dr Art posted this mashup to show why we don't post all things sent to Mashuptown...

way out of key
just because someone throws a hissy-fit doesn't mean you should post their crap

What Tanner says about his music having heart is true in my esteem. He loves this track, even for its flaws, suggesting that for him, this is one of those songs that makes you stop what you're doing for three minutes and remember the days.
There have been armloads of unpolished tracks that have moved me for one reason or another but I wouldn't play them for my friends: music is art and there is no correct response.
I genuinely hope that somebody else feels this track the way Tanner does.

I think the occasional dissonance works in its favor. He's given the song a new, valid chord context, something I always enjoy. I like it & have heard plenty worse. Disclaimers: Although I've made a lot of sound manipulation pieces, I think only one is a mashup & it's ancient, so I don't know what rules have evolved. I'm not acquainted with the Pink Floyd track & have never been crazy about Nirvana.

It's mindboggling for me to read that some 1 can "love" the queen slayer thing to the extent that he posts my work only in retaliation to my criticism of it and as an example of what he "normally doesn't wanna post" in an all out attempt to embarass me. Talk about different strokes..
For the record there's much more to me than the occasional obscenity.
Oh well I guess any publicity is good publicity.
Ain't that the truth?
covered in security

So 6 hate it
2 see potential
2 kinda like it
krasni is my mate anyways..
Not too bad for a track I did in about 10 minutes. Yeah it needs some work but concept-wise I am quite proud of it.
United Kingdom - no points
If you like it then thank you
if you hate it then
I dont know what to say to that

It sucks according to some huh. Oh well at least it's not some cheesy dance track mashed with a cheesier one reading whose title alone makes me wanna vomit.
It's art for art's sake. Not Arrt's.

You put ten minutes into it? It shows.
What's mindboggling is that you put such pride and emotional investment into something that self-admittedly took you ten minutes to knock off. Take some of that energy and use it to make something that isn't crap. Because, really, that's what this is.

without takin the rant & apology into consideration, this is just crap.
concept wise, yuck
production wise, yuck
overall, YUCK!

"Yes I know it is ironic that the track was posted."
Ironic for most, iconic for others..

a lot of fuzz... for nothing...
its not like it's the next best thing to happen in MTown.. very lame, useless...
"without takin the rant & apology into consideration, this is just crap" (very true)
If I want to slash my wrists... I'd just listen to radihead or some other Emo crap... not this sucky mashup.
peace out!
