If you have been around the internets for any time you have run across some Nigerian brothers who want to help you make millions by simply giving them a few bits of your financial information. Well me thinks that the Nigerians are now targeting DJs. Yes I have been getting several emails over the past couple of months from a 'Dr. Clerk Martins' asking me to "DJ" and event.
The title of the email is "YOUR SERVICES NEEDED" and reads as follows:

wedding coming up on the 26th of january 2008 in texas.Pls i will like to know if you
would be available for the mentioned date?if so,i will pay for the full transportation and
all other things needed by you,and finally i'l like to know your final asking price for the
event .Have a good day.
So while this may be the beginning of the fleecing of the DJ/Producers by the Nigerians it might be someone who just needs to have a gig DJ'd. If you get the gig let me know if this bloke is related to Dock Martins and say hello to the happy couple for me.
In keeping with the Holiday Spirit I pulled a track of DJ BC's Santastic III-D album entitled 'You Shook me all Noel' - man I'm a sucka for DC Boots.
Peace on Earth.

I received the exact same email that you did. Wedding date is the same too. I am still investigating if it is a genuine request. Perhaps his daugter likes my podcast and yours too...
Just send me a note at dj.bulut@gmail.com and let me know what you think.

This is being targeted (from what I've heard) to DJ's and traveling musicians, and one confirmed case of utter duping, and the scammers made off with thousands. Don't trust it, guys.

yup. we got something ridiculously similar to that email a couple months ago and responded to it. Wrote up an artist contract which they ignored and then out of the blue, just sent us a check for 3x our fee and they requested we deposit the check in the bank ASAP and then money order the remainder to a third party. Well that's pretty obviously bogus. So I looked up online scams targeting djs and this one has been circulating for a while. What they will do is once you have deposited the check and sent the money, they will cancel the check and request return payment, keeping whatever you would have sent via money order. Later your bank will reverse the credit to your account because the check is bad.

Posted by: Dj Shit | February 06, 2008 at 10:30 AM
My husband is a DJ and got a series of e-mails over a 2 month span exactly like these. Luckily we relized it was a scam when we recieved a ridiculous check and were asked to pay the wedding planners, what DJ does that? I immediately sent a very nast e-mail telling the scammers that they are not going to get us and they even wrote back and tried to convince us that they were "god fearing", and would never try to hurt us. No more out of town clients with broken English for us anymore!
