Christmas Comes Early - Ho Ho Ho

Santasticiii500Here is the latest Xmas compilation to come out of the Mashup community.  Merrily organized by the every jolly DJ BC and many other of his merry men. One of the best we've heard I might add.

Following on the heels of 2006's Santastic II: Clausome and 2005's Santastic: Holiday Boots For Your Stockings, here we have Santastic III in 3-D! It's a fresh-baked new collection of Holiday mash-ups, alternate treatments and bootleg remixes that is sure to stuff your stockings, deck your halls and make your December nights a little less silent.

In 2007, we're bringing the Christmas tunes from three dimensions: past, present, and future, and pumping 'em up with the juicy breaks and sugarplum samples to make your spirits bright. We're also amped to present an hilarious, semi-unreleased, tongue-in-cheek Christmas anthem from Big D and The Kids Table. Red Sox-themed drinking/Christmas music! Does it get any better than that? So kick back with a nog and prepare to be dazzled by tunes from some incredibly talented mashup artists and remixers from The US, England, Scotland, The Netherlands, Germany, and Sweden.

And I am heartily honored to raise a virtual glass of cheer alongside every one of them. With the official soundtrack in the player, this holiday party is officially started. We toast you and you

rs, wishing you a Happy Hannukah, a Cool Yule and/or a Kickin' Kwanzaa, whichever your prefer. And may 2008 totally rule, for all of us!

Now to get Political on your A** - Mashup The Vote!

At the risk of alienating folks, pissing people off, and losing editors I've decided to post this video about a man who I truly believe can make a difference in the US.  I'm going to keep this up until Dec. 16 - perhaps longer.  I'm going to ask two things of you (and I don't ever ask for much).  First take a look at this video.  I'm not telling you to vote for this man..... I'm not shoving him down your throat - just take a look at the man and listen to what he has to say.  I think this next US election could possibly be the most important election in the history of America.  Second, if you can vote in this next election please take your vote seriously and educate yourself on the candidates who will be running.  Peace.

DJ Moule - Le Boot de la Semaine

1196096676_1210 New boot of the week by the prolific and Mashup artist extrordinaire DJ Moule.  'Dig It On  takes on a foursome containing the Chemical Brothers, T-Rex, Anne Lee, and Marvin Gaye.  French Floor Filla.  Make sure you check out all of Moules mashterpieces at his site HERE.  You all have a great week.  Peace.

Harrison Schaaf and the Art of Production

1196096464_1225

He calls it Gigantic Mix, and huge it is.  Los Angeles artist Harrison Schaaf gives us a lesson in production with his 30 minute mix that blurs the lines between mashups, remixes, DJing, and original production. Largely electro and rap based, this one sinks its teeth in right from the get go and doesn’t stop giving us something to think about, if not just plain dance to. Says Schaaf himself:

“I feel like the world of mashups and remixes and original tracks is a bit difficult to navigate. With mashups in particular the artistic process and context are important in terms of defining what you're actually doing. Did you hear a collection of elements put together in a certain way, or did you stumble upon a combination that you liked while you were practicing your Dj set? Also - if I make and finish a track and never think about putting a Rich Boy acapella over it, and then I go to the club, and two seconds before I mix in that track have the idea to throw the acapella over it, am I mashing up, creating a live remix, or just adding something to what is largely my own work, even with the acapella taken into account? Whatever your parameters of artistic credit are, flexibility of definition is definitely in order here.”

Grab the mix, and if you’re wondering about the source material you haven’t heard, it’s probably original productions by Schaaf himself, some of which can be downloaded from his myspace HERE. Enjoy!

1. The Bump Remix - Harrison Schaaf vs. Aphletik
2. Badd Remix - Harrison Schaaf vs. Yin Yang Twins
3. NYC Beat Remix/Twoface - Harrison Schaaf
4. What You Know Remix/Could Be Bad - Harrison Schaaf vs. T.I.
5. This Is Metal Part I - Harrison Schaaf
6. A Proper Education (Give It To Me) - Eric Prydz vs. Rick James
7. This Is Metal Part II - Harrison Schaaf
8. Chrome Punch - Harrison Schaaf Featuring Ian J
9. What You Know Remix/V.S.O.P. - Harrison Schaaf vs. T.I.
