2 for 1 A+D Mashuptown Exclusive!!!

The Super Cool duo of A plus D (a.k.a Adrian and the Mysterious D) just dropped a handful of new mash-ups to us over here at mashuptown. And we must say that we were stoked with what they had cooked up. How they find the time to keep their chains of Club Bootie going and put together so many quality mash-ups is amazing.

The first one that caught our attention was "Tobaco Club Action", which mashes together Yo Majesty's "Club Action" with Bonde Do Role's "Melo Do Tobacco" which samples Alice in Chains. "Tobaco Club Action" is for sure going to get the floors moving at Bootie. The second one, which proves that two wrongs actually do make a right, is "Pour Some Hot Sugar" in which A & D mash together Mims "This is Why I'm Hot" and Def Leopard "Pour Some Sugar on Me".

It's All In The Shoes

Mr O.C. sunny boy himself, Voicedude, just added three new mashups to his repertoire, and they are all creative in their elements, to say the least. Here we have a footwear theme, made up of "Shoes" by Kelly and "Boogie Shoes" by KC & the Sunshine Band with a sprinkling of Bob Carlisle's "Christmas Shoes." The result is a goofy, but catchy little ditty. Makes you want to “get some shit” and dance a little. Get the other 2 tracks over at his podcast site.

Hard rocking Mashups seem far and few between these days.  Those of you who've been hanging around the MTown for a while know how much I dig these tracks.  DJ Johnny Red has produced a track that will be getting much play on mypod for the next while.

Two For Thursday: A Clivester Close-Up - Part 1

In this week's belated Professor Quillam spotlight, I temporarily shift days to bring you another Two-For special; now serving "Two For Thursday."  The blue light special today is DJ Clivester's mash-up titled "Am I Undone."  This little digital  widget of frequency vibrations has several well produced moments.  From the onset, the Fat Boy Slim "Weapon Of Choice" melody and the Erasure melody give the mash-up a catchy Royksopp-like electronica feel.  The Korn vocal seems to fall in place nicely, even though it receives a considerable boost in tempo (at least compared to the original Korn song).  Many times a nicely planned mash-up flops at the starting gate because of an ill-advised acapella tempo hike, for instance, from 100 BPM to a brisk 140.  The scratch-down section about four minutes into the mash-up is also done very well; not too long or tangent, yet long enough.  Straight from the downbeat, this one gets four and one half stars.  Good structure, content and quality.

Two For Thursday: A Clivester Close-Up - Part 2

Part 2 of this review focuses on another Clivester creation, titled "Yummy Popcorn."  Considering what the WWW listening audience has come to expect from DJ Clivester, this particular venture falls short of the Clivester standard--at least from an analytical, content-oriented perspective.  All listening pleasure aside, this mash-up contains two forces that never seem to get in sync, much less want to share the same space.  Perhaps this was the goal of Mr. Clivester.  Perhaps this is just one of those things that happens.  Each element (the pella and instrumental), in its own right, is appealing.  However, once the first thirty seconds of the mash-up elapses we are left with two elements that appear to be continuously seeking for first dibs in the aural spectrum race.  At the one minute mark, things appear to finally organize themselves as the pella obtains the focus and the instrumental lines take a supporting actor role in this one act play. Things change once again, however, and around one minute and thirty seconds in the mash-up we are back with two fighting elements. This mash-up does, however, end on a cleverly organized ending.  All biased-laden opinions aside, while this mash-up is listener friendly and generally well produced it does lack some of the synergy we've come to hear from Clivester in the past.  Notwithstanding, four stars are earned.
