Starting today, Sunday, and continuing on until the Sun's inner iron core causes it to implode, I, Professor Quillam, will be bringing you a new showcase in addition to the Two For Tuesday spotlight. The Sunday Soundbyte will showcase not only new blender creations but also up-and-coming mash-up producers still finding their footing. This inaugural edition of the Sunday Soundbyte features a new little creation by Germany's own The Homogenic Chaos titled "Little Bird Runaway to a Hidden Place." With one part Annie Lennox, one part Bjork and one part Avril Lavigne, you'll end up with something which, mathematically, appears to work yet somewhat falls short of the spectacular and finds a place in the satisfactory. What does all that mean? The beginning duo of Lennox's "Little Bird" and Lavigne's "Runaway" instrumental seem to be able to share the same space but the effort is lost because the instrumental overpowers the vocals, and the quality of the Lennox acapella seems muddy and lost in the "mids" in relation to that of the instrumental. Things appear to take off once the Bjork vocals come in about mid-way through the mash-up. From there on, the mash-up gets its second wind as Bjork's vocals float nicely over the instrumental (still however, Bjork is overpowered a bit by the instrumental). Once again, we stop short of the spectacular because the mash-up ends relatively quickly and unconvincingly, leaving the listener looking for a better, more complete resolution. More can be done with this one, perhaps a re-working of the recipe's ratio will do the trick, although there is a solid mash-up lost somewhere in there.
Acapella: Annie Lennox - "Little Bird"; Bjork - "Hidden Place"
Instrumental: Avril Lavigne - "Runaway"

Liking this new feature a lot. Short review and constructive criticism. You're deffo on to something here.
And - like you - I think there's a great mash somewhere in this one. And I agree on most of your suggestions. But I'd prob lose Lennox entirely and concentrate on Bjork vs Avril. That's where the keeper is. At least for me.
Thanks for an interesting feature, PQ. And thank you Chaos for an interesting mash-up.

You're right about the idea that this little milkshake needs to "shake" the Lennox part. My original thought was to include something along the lines that Chaos should separate this puppy out and possibly try to make two versions. I stopped short of making those suggestions because I am trying to simply stick to a review of the material with a dash of idea sharing, and because the chap could get tons of ideas on which direction he should take by posting this on GYBO (which I think he has).
In general, however, I'm glad you like my new showcase spotlight. Check back regularly for the Two For Tuesday segment and the Sunday Soundbyte. Additionally, my fellow editors are also putting out some great stuff. Much respect to those Gs as well.
