RIAA go Away

The letters and emails just keep coming.  Looks like Mashuptownradio.com will be pulled from the net soon too.  If anyone has or knows of someone who has server space in Russia will you let us know.

Here is the latest notice we've received:

Dear Live365 Broadcaster -

The RIAA has been in touch with us recently to let us know that they have found a number of stations that are not compliant on the service.

This is something we take very seriously, so we're going to ask for your help here.

But first, I want to give some back story for those of you who’ve not been involved in internet radio that long.

In 1998, Congress passed the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA). This piece of legislation established parameters around which one could build a
business in instances where copyrighted digital material is concerned (e.g. music, software). It also built in some protections for the content
companies who produce said digital material, (e.g. the RIAA) as they wanted to ensure that internet distribution wouldn’t cannibalize sales.

>>>For the purposes of internet radio, the resulting restrictions included:

1) Broadcasters must display complete ID3 tag information.
2) Broadcasters must comply with “The Rules” http://www.live365.com/info/rules.html
3) No unauthorized or “bootleg” recordings
4) For LIVE broadcasters, broadcasters must make sure the track metadata is streaming to the Player Window.

In their recent communication, the RIAA notified us that they have observed stations that are out of compliance with one or more of these rules.

Please take a moment to ensure your ID3 tag information is completed, and make sure your playlist is not in violation with the song complement rules
(outlined in The Rules, here http://www.live365.com/info/rules.html ), and that you’re not playing any illegally recorded, unauthorized or bootleg
material.

We have created a new field on the broadcast page to help you identify whether your station is compliant, and - if not - what the problem is. Within
the next week, we will be releasing an improvement to the Playlist Analyzer  to help broadcasters identify compliance problems within each playlist.
We've also created a troubleshooting page at http://forums.live365.com/viewtopic.php?t=28306.

We will send out an additional reminder about this within the next couple of weeks. If stations continue to operate OUT of compliance, we will
reserve the right to shut them down or otherwise restrict access.

Mashuptown is Dead, Long Live Mashuptown

Edit 12/3/05.  Resurrection: For the time being  MashuptownRadio.com will be offline due to the DCMA and it's enforcers.  As well all files offline prior to 11/14/05 until we can get new links established.  If you have those links send along to Mashuptown@gmail.com.  Due to changes in our operating structure we no longer can guarantee the quality of the links to content posted here.  None of the content is hosted at Mashuptown.com.  If you find a link down let us know.  Thanks for your patience and support.  Mashuptown will continue to provide you with great Mashups to listen to and at the same time promote the DJ's/Producers/Artists who Mash em' up and the original Artists whose tracks make these Mashterpieces possible.  Props to Aggro1 who assisted behind the scenes to get us back up and running - you are the Aggrogator.  Peace in, Peace out.

The time has come to shut down this blog/site/podcast.  This has come about for many reasons which I won't bore you with.  First, let me say that I would like to thank all the Artists, producers, Dj's that made this a total labor of love.  Your creativity and cleverness will never cease to amaze me.  Most of the Mashup tracks that were featured on this site were in many cases better than the originals.  Props go out to all of you who visited, sampled, sent in comments/email, and put links to the site in your blogs or podcasts.  Also a big up to Adam Curry and The Daily Source Code.  Adam's Podcast first introduced me to Mashups and got me hooked.  The response to Mashuptown has never been greater, the number of hits has never been larger, and the bandwidth usage has gone thru the roof.  I hope that we have entertained you for this short 8 months or so.  I hope that we've helped to sell the music of the artists used in the Mashups we've featured (we have I know this), I hope that perhaps once in a while we've made your day just a little brighter.  We will still have MashuptownRadio.com running until someone tells us that we need to shut it down.  The files will be slowly taken offline over the next few days as we can find the time to do so.  What started out as an experiment has brought more joy and satisfaction into my life than I could have ever imagined.  I wish you all a great Holdiay season.  Many thanks to all of you again.  We'll sign off on the Podcast with a track that is podsafe and is by a great band that goes by the name of Steadman.  It's not a mashup.  Make sure you go by these guys website and tell them we sent ya.  They really get it when it comes to sharing ones music.  Here is the link:

Monday Morning Mashup

DJ Whiz a.ka. DJ Island Whiz takes a band that you might have forgotten about and mixes it with one you probably haven't.  You all can figure it out (just look at the id3 tags).  Great Mashup that found it's way into our email pile last week and produced by a fellow Canuck who at this moment is stuck on remote island in the Pacific Ocean.  Props to DJ Island Whiz for mixing this track and helping us start out our week.

Hi my name is AW and I'm a Mashupoholic

  Coming at ya from the Portable Media Expo in Ontario, CA.  Brief encounters with the rich an famous of the Podcast world, Adam Curry, CC Chapman, the beautiful Madge Weinberg and new Podshow superstar Mark Yoshimoto Nemcoff.  These guys and gals really know how to party but unfortunately got drunk under the table by the International Association of Porta Potty dealers who had their meeting right next door (I'm not shitting you - really).  Back to the Mashup - DJ Schmolli takes a personal fav band of mine, Creed and mashes the boys up with Destiny's Child.  Props to all of you who subscribed this week and sent along tracks and comments.  If there is anything you want to hear let us know.  Make sure you have a great Veteran's Day and weekend.  Here ya go:
